A circular economy allows resources to be used for as long as possible, extracting the maximum value from them while they are in use. This is different from a linear economy where we use a product, followed by disposal. Take plastics, for example. The unique characteristics of plastics allow them to be lightweight, durable, versatile, and cost effective. Plastics can help extend the life of our food, contribute to product shelf life, and even protect our front line workers. But plastics waste is an increasing burden on our environment, including oceans and other water bodies.
