UPDATEline and call-out 10 years

Northeast Region CAER launched the “Community Notification Program” (UPDATEline and call-out system) in 2003. To mark the milestone, it’s a good time to remind Heartland residents of the value and benefits of this program, which consists of the UPDATEline, a toll-free, 24 hour community information line and an automated call-out notification system. Member organizations activate both systems to provide residents with information about activities they may notice and have questions about, as well as safety messages should an incident occur in their immediate vicinity.

The UPDATEline, used almost daily, has become a valuable way for area residents to obtain information about a number of organizations by calling a single number. Industry members post messages about activities such as maintenance, flaring, noise, training exercises, traffic volumes and incidents. Municipal members have posted messages regarding wild fires, high river warnings, traffic interruptions, water outages and rail incidents. The notification system has been used to call residents about water outages, wildfires and incidents at industry. To learn more about notification, shelter in place safety and mutual aid, visit youtube/Northeast Region CAER.
